  Quotations - Anticipation
[Quote No.67562] Need Area: Fun > Anticipation
"Unhappiness happens when your reality does not match [falls below - is less than] your hopes and expectations! [Happiness is the reverse - when your reality equals or is greater than your hopes and expectations. Frustration and ingratitude are experienced when reality is compared to something better. Relief and gratitude are experienced when reality is compared with something worse.]" - Mo Gawdat

[Quote No.67574] Need Area: Fun > Anticipation
"[Gratitude for the past, present and future; satisfaction for the past and; anticipation of the future:--] Please stop looking at what you don't have [that is better]. "If you decide that you're going to be happy from now on for the rest of your life, you will not only be happy, you will become enlightened. Unconditional happiness is the highest technique there is!! You don't have to learn Sanskrit or read any scriptures. You don't have to renounce the world. You just have to really mean it when you say that you choose to be happy. And you have to mean it regardless of what happens [always being grateful that things are not worse]. This is truly a spiritual path, and it is as direct and sure a path to Awakening as could possibly exist. " - Michael Singer

[Quote No.67921] Need Area: Fun > Anticipation
"A Good Laugh Is Good For You, However... anticipating the laugh... is even better! Laughter may be the best medicine, but even looking forward to having a good laugh can boost your immune system and reduce stress, according to US researchers at the University of California-Irvine. 'This stuff is real,' said Lee Berk, an assistant professor of family medicine and researcher in complementary and alternative medicine, who led the study. Berk went on to say... 'This study shows that even knowing you will be involved in a positive humorous event days in advance reduces levels of stress hormones in the blood and increases levels of chemicals known to aid relaxation.' His team tested 16 men who all agreed they thought a certain videotape was funny. Half of them were told 3 days in advance they would watch it. Anticipation is half, or two-thirds, the fun... Just anticipating a happy, funny event can raise levels of endorphins and other pleasure and relaxation-inducing hormones, and lower production of stress hormones. Those who knew in advance they would see the video started experiencing biological changes right away. These findings were reported by Berk at a meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Orlando, Florida. Pretty Incredible Findings... When the men watched the video, levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, fell 39%. Epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, fell 70%, while levels of the feel-good hormone endorphin rose 27% and growth hormone levels climbed 87%. 'Growth hormone is very beneficial to the immune system,' Berk said. This all suggests that anticipation of a funny event can lower stress and stimulate the immune system, Berk further explained. Watching a funny video, or just laughing at a joke, could make healthful changes in the levels of hormones involved in stress and lower blood pressure. In 2000, a team at the University of Maryland reported that people who stated that they used humor more often were less likely to have had heart attacks. But this is the first time that researchers have shown the anticipation of having fun has similar effects. 'You have been thinking about it all day, so you experience a change in biology even before you get there... that's therapeutic', Berk said. The finding strengthens the advice that everyone should lighten up a little to live longer." - Maggie Fox

[Quote No.68176] Need Area: Fun > Anticipation
"[It has been said that most unhappy people simply expect too much from life, thus setting themselves up for disappointment when it fails to deliver the endless happiness they envisioned when we were young. Nineteenth century German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer summed up this discouraging reality when he wrote:-] There is only one inborn error, and that is the notion that we exist in order to be happy. ... So long as we persist in this inborn error... the world seems to us full of contradictions. For at every step, in great things and small, we are bound to experience that the world and life are certainly not arranged for the purpose of maintaining a happy existence... hence the countenances of almost all elderly persons wear the expression of what is called disappointment. [This would suggest that people should lower their expectations and try for less. This seems to ensure a lower level of success and happiness in life. A better mental attitude to develop and maintain is to aim, work and hope for the best in life but to manage the inevitable disappointments by focusing on how things could have been worse rather than better - as all emotions are caused by comparisons. In this way people can be excited about their future and still be happy about their present and past results. It isn't necessarily easy to do - at least at first, but it is worthwhile and much better than the alternatives.]" - Arthur Schopenhauer
Nineteenth century German philosopher

[Quote No.68866] Need Area: Fun > Anticipation
"[Curiously asking questions, exploring, learning and growing can be fun - absorbing, attention and focus grabbing and 'flow' inducing:-] One thing I can definitely say after fifteen years of QI [the show he developed and produced about 'Quite Interesting' facts in a funny game-show-like format] research is that nothing is as it appears; nothing is as simple or obvious as it seems. Everything has an underside – an engine room as it were – something hidden deep inside it which is completely astonishing. ... When I started QI, only about five per cent of people that I talked to understood what it was really getting at. They said: 'Oh, it's a game', but I would say: 'No, it’s a principle'. The principle at the core of QI is that literally everything in the universe without exception is interesting – if looked at long enough or closely enough or from the right angle. This is a philosophy that really works. Over and over again we have proved that something that looks dull is not dull. It works for anything – any country, any fruit, any town, any house, any person!!" - John Lloyd
He is a television producer and presenter who has been responsible for some of the most innovative and influential UK comedies of the last thirty years, in honour of which he received, in 2011, a CBE for services to broadcasting. In the 1970s and '80s, he worked on programmes such as 'The News Quiz', 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', 'Not the Nine O’Clock News', 'Spitting Image' and 'Blackadder', and went on to direct a series of award-winning adverts, including the Barclaycard series featuring Rowan Atkinson. But in the 1990s his career was interrupted by a bout of deep depression which lasted for several years. In 2002, he returned to television, making the pilot of 'QI' (standing for 'quite interesting'), the popular comedy panel game which is now in its 15th series on the BBC. But QI is more than a television programme; it is a different way of engaging with knowledge which has its own philosophy and manifesto. As an independent research company, it produces radio shows, podcasts, live theatre, DVDs and books (the latest of which, '1,423 QI Facts to Bowl You Over', appeared this October). Now it is poised to enter the realm of education: at the 2017 Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference in Belfast, John revealed that a new QI approach to learning, based upon inspiring pupils with quite interesting facts, will be piloted at a number of UK schools in the coming year. This quote comes from when he spoke at his offices in London's Covent Garden, where he and his tiny army of 'elves' beaver away at uncovering the extraordinary bits of information which power the QI enterprise. For example, in 2011, Australia minted a giant 'A$1 million' gold coin. It weighed over a ton and used gold worth A$52 million. Queen Victoria had an irrational fear of bishops. Lenin owned nine Rolls-Royces. Borneo has the world's largest number of species of mango but not the largest number of mango trees. Bananas are used to make kimonos. [Refer https://besharamagazine.org/arts-literature/a-quite-interesting-approach-to-education/ also refer to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrITnpQZIT8 for a little more about the QI philosophy.]
